    Wall Mounting

    Hi,

I'm going to be attempting to put up an 80cm dish and motor later in the week, I just wanted to get anyones opinion on how best to mount the dish and hopefully people can point out any potential problems before I run into them.

Firstly my dish came with one of these [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] but I also got one of these T & K brackets [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

I bought this stuff quite a while ago but I think I remember reading that the bracket that came with the dish isn't suitable for a motor. So is that correct, the T & K brackets are the way to go?

The house is directly facing astra 19.2° and I don't think there would be much advantage to mounting the satellite at roof level we so I was planning to mount it like below but limit the motor so it doesn't hit the wall. We have a flat roof from a first floor extension like the picture so pretty much the same:

    instead of

It seems like a T & K bracket is designed for the second type of install^^ but it's use it for the first type? If that's alright, what distance should the brackets be spaced and what length of pole do I need?

Also what should I actually be using to connect it to the wall, coach bolts?

Sorry for all the questions, I've been reading through guides and theres just a few things I need to clear up before getting started. Any thoughts would be great, thanks

The bracket that came with the dish should work fine if its 2" diameter, it's just harder to get vertical in all axis. I use washers at the back of the plate to achieve this.

T&K brackets are easier to get the pole vertical as it has slotted holes and slotted u-bolt holes. (T shaped bracket goes at the top). As a guide, when installing aerials anyway the spacing for the brackets is a fifth the length of the pole, so for example a 10feet pole the brackets would be 2feet apart, but for a dish that isn't going above the gutter it doesn't really matter as the motor will sit between the T&K brackets.

Fixing wise, I use 10mm wall plugs drilled into brick not mortar.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply TK4|2|1, that does help.

For some reason the bracket that came with it just made me a bit paranoid of the whole lot crashing through the neighbours conservatory the first time the wind blows.

Is this alright for holding it all up? [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Those wall plugs are fine if you where mounting above gutter on a scaffold pole i would have said source some 70-100mm in lengh due to the extra weight, But seeing as you wall mounting with an 18" T&K then those will be fine and as TK4|2|1 said mount the dish in between the T & K with at least 1 meter gap between the 2, You should hit a good ARC spread with the 18" T&K as long as there are no obstructions you should easily reach 45e - 45w.

    Good Luck with your install

Good point, to be honest I didn't even look at the length of those. I'll maybe get them a little longer to be safe and 1 meter apart

Thanks for the info digicon and TK4|2|1, I appreciate it. Just waiting on a mate to get me a pole now....

**edit: oops, they're 24" T&K brackets, does that make a difference to anything?

No, it will stick out from the wall more, better if anything as you will get more clearance for the dish to swing east/west. Might just look odd being so far from the wall is all.

Sorry to bump an old thread but I'm getting no signal at all, any ideas?

The motor manual has latitude 54 - 27.4 dish angle. Everything is true south to start.

I can see the box through the window and satfinder is getting no signal SNR 0 AGC 99% BER 0

    I followed these instructions

    Setup Motorised Dish using USALS
First get your longitude & latitude info from _http://www.satsig.net/maps/lat-long-finder.htm

Enter your post code into satsig.net and you'll get the correct LON & LAT info for your location.

Example if I enter the following UK postal code: SE1 6JZ into _http://www.satsig.net/maps/lat-long-finder.htm

I get the following LAT & LON:
    Latitude: 51.4979°
    NORTH
    Longitude: -0.1042°
    WEST

    Press Menu
    Select Setup Press OK
    Select Service searching Press OK
    Select Tuner configuration Press OK
    Select Tuner A Press OK

    Configuration Mode: Simple
    Mode: Positioner
    Latitude: 51.497 Press OK
    NORTH
    Longitude: 0.1042 Press OK
    WEST

    Press OK to save.

    Press Menu
    Select Setup Press OK
    Select service searching Press OK
    Select Positioner Setup Press OK
Select goto 0 Press RED Button

    Dish should now goto 1w.
I also tried 28.2 but nothing

    Hi Mate,

Although the motor manual says 54 lat and 27.4 dish elevation take it with a pinch of salt.

First off if your latitude is 51.4979° then on your actual motor bracket you should set the marker to 51.5 i know there is no half marks on the motor lat bracket just try and get it in between 51 and 52.

Next set your dish angle at a starter point of around 27 but be prepared to adjust up and down to get the best signal, and obviously you will also need to adjust the motor and dish left and right on the pole to peak your signal.

    best of luck

The instructions have a step missing. The very last step is to exit the menu, and providing you have a channel list installed, select a channel off 1deg west. Then align the dish.
